Obama leads tributes as former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher dies aged

President Obama today led the tributes to former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher, the Iron Lady who forged America's 'special relationship' with the UK, after she died this morning aged 87.
Britain's first political leader passed away peacefully in London at the Ritz Hotel, after suffering from poor health for more than a decade.
Acknowledging her commitment to the special relationship, President Obama issued a statement praising her formidable partnership with former president Ronald Reagan in the 1980s - as she stood shoulder to shoulder with the United States in the face of the 'Evil Empire' of the Soviet Union.

As Britain's most recognizable leader since Winston Churchill, Mr. Obama said that Mrs. Thatcher was an 'example to our daughters that there is no glass ceiling that can’t be shattered.'

Baroness Thatcher's spokesman Lord Bell passed on the news from her children that the former politician had passed away after a long battle with poor health today.
