Ghana news: Police Gun Down 3 Robbers

Officers of the Greater Accra Region Police Command on Wednesday night gunned down three suspected armed robbers near Ashaley-Botwe and are hunting for a fourth.

The group of four young men, armed with pistols and knives, engaged the services of a taxi driver to transport them from Kotoku to Dome in the Ga East Municipality.
In the middle of their journey, the alleged robbers stole the Nissan Micra taxicab with registration number GR5251-13 from its driver.

The taxi driver’s screams drew the attention of a police patrol team in the area.

Upon seeing the police closing in on them, the robbers opened fire and the police fired back, wounding the three robbers and sending the taxi into a ditch.

The robbers died while en route to the hospital. The fourth suspect took to his heels in spite of sustaining bullet wounds. He is believed to be hiding around Ashaley-Botwe, Madina, Adetan or in a nearby area.

A search of the taxi turned up three locally made pistols, twenty live cartridges, two used cartridges, one foreign revolver and a sharp knife.
