Ghana: Large cocaine from Panama bust at Takoradi Port

Sources can authoritatively confirm that a consignment of cocaine has been intercepted and impounded by the Narcotics Control Board (NACOB).The bust was done by NACOB in conjunction with the Customs division of the Ghana Revenue Authority and the Takoradi Port Authority in the Western region.

The exercise was done in the evening of Friday April 12, 2013.The Agent and Consignee of the consignment have been arrested and being kept in the custody of Ghana's National Security. The cocaine was concealed among a shipment of sandals from Panama.

It is not clear who the consignment was meant for or whether Ghana is the final destination.The Sector Commander of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority of the Western region, Fred Gavor, confirmed the drug bust to XYZ News’ Western regional Correspondent Emmanuel Ohene Gyan.

NACOB, GRA and the National Security are yet to begin full scale investigations into the bust to ascertain the quantity.
