57 Malians and Nigerian arrested in Ghana for illegal mining

Fifty seven Malians and Nigerian have been arrested for their involvement in illegal mining.They were arrested in a swoop at Kyebi in the Eastern Region.

According to the Eastern Regional Minister, Helen Ntosoh, all efforts will be geared towards dealing with illegal small scale mining activities in the region.

President Mahama has inaugurated a high-powered inter-ministerial taskforce to deal with the galamsey menace in the country .

The committee included the Ministers for the Interior, Defence, Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration as well as Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation. It is headed by the Minister for Land and Natural Resources.

In an interview with Citi News Ms. Helen Ntosoh stated that "it was easy to get them arrested because they knew where they stayed."

She stressed that the exercise would continue in order to ensure that all the perpetrators had been arrested.

“We are going to continue because they are all over the place. They are around Atiwa, Kyebi, Denkyembour, Antie Mansah, Kwabibrem so we will get them” she added.
