US: Zimmerman likely to get gun back

The gun used by George Zimmerman to shoot dead teenager Trayvon Martin is likely to be returned to the former volunteer neighbourhood watchman following his acquittal, reports said on Monday.

Citing an aide to defence attorney Mark O’Mara, NBC News reported that the Keltec 9mm handgun Zimmerman used to shoot and Martin had at this stage not yet been returned to Zimmerman.

“It’s something that will happen, but I don’t think it has happened,” Shawn Vincent told the programme.
Florida law bars people convicted of a felonies from owning firearms and ammunition.

O’Mara told ABC News that Zimmerman does plan to get his gun back, saying he needs it now “even more” than before.

“[There's] even more reason now, isn’t there? There are a lot of people out there who actually hate him, though they shouldn’t.”
