A 72nd minute strike by Nathan Sinkala served only as a consolation after conceding a goal in each half from the Black Stars.
The Zambians started the war of words and capped it with dramatic flight incident Wednesday. On Thursday night they insisted on training on the pitch but were disallowed because the time allotted for them had elapsed.
They swore to beat the Stars and scuttle any hope of a third successive World Cup appearance. But that was not to be.
Ghana's diminutive striker, Majeed Waris soared above his marker and with a glancing header secured Ghana’s first goal which left Mwaween clearly beaten.
Kwadwo Asamoah effectively ended any chance of a Zambia qualification when his thunder bolt of a shot zoomed straight into the net for Ghana’s second goal.
But the Zambians fought back strongly in a desperate search for an equalizer. They got one in the final embers of the game but it was too late.
Speaking after the match Renard said they lost to a better side.
According to him, his charges were inefficient and were nothing close to the classic goal scored by Asamoah.
The coach refused to talk about his future, even though there are strong indications he might just resign his role.
