Former Ghana Defence Minister Dr. Kwame Addo Kufuor Wins ¢680m Libel Case

An Accra Fast Track High Court presided over by Justice Ofori-Atta has ordered Kobby Fiagbe, editor of the pro-NDC newspaper, The Ghanaian Lens, to pay an amount of GH¢68,000 to former Defence Minister Dr. Kwame Addo Kufuor, who had sued him for defamation.

The court ordered the editor to pay GH¢60,000 as damages and GH¢8,000 as costs.

The former minister had filed a defamation case against the journalist for pronouncing on Adom FM, an Accra-based radio station, that he (Dr Addo Kufuor) was one of the New Patriotic Party leaders who received 20 percent of contract sums as kickback.

The former minister filed the defamation suit on February 28, 2012, praying the court to declare that the statement made by the editor was reckless and defamatory and also award damages against the editor for tarnishing his image.
