Dwayne Johnson named highest earning movie star in Hollywood ..

Dwayne Johnson is the world champion of the box office as he is top grossing actor in Hollywood with $1.3billion in ticket sales for 2013.

Johnson has had, not just his best career year, but the best year in all of Hollywood.The Rock, who for years dominated the WWE, has now body slammed the world of acting and has become the champion of the box office.

Forbes announced on Tuesday (Dec 17th) the names of the top-grossing actors of 2013 and Johnson reigned as No.1 with $1.3 billion worth of ticket sales.

The 41 year-old held on to beat 'Iron Man 3' star Robert Downey Jr, who finished in a close 2nd with $1.2 billion, after only filming the one Marvel comic adaptation this year.

However, Downey still remains the highest-earning actor as he garnered $29 million more than Dwayne with an estimated $75 million earned from June 2012 to June 2013.

On the other hand, the former WWE Champion earned the top spot at the box office by starring in a number of big budget action movies as well as couple of smaller productions.

He starred in the hugely successful 'Fast & Furious 6', which earned £789 million at the box office worldwide, 'G.I. Joe: Retaliation' alongside Bruce Willis, and two smaller productions which were Mark Wahlberg's 'Pain & Gain' and the crime drama film 'Snitch'.

The speed racing franchise's 6th instalment also capitulated co-stars Vin Diesel (4th) and the recently late Paul Walker (6th), in the top ten list.

Sitting in 3rd position is American funny man Steve Carell whose voice in 'Despicable Me 2' helped the animated film earn a huge ticket sale total of $919 million. The 51 year-old also starred in the independent drama film 'The Way, Way Back' and comedy 'The Incredible Burt Wonderstone'.

Rounding off the top five is the first women to feature on the list, Sandra Bullock. Her starring role in the crime comedy film 'Heat' earned $230 million at the box office globally and the outer space thriller 'Gravity', alongside George Clooney, is likely to earn her another Oscar nod.
