THE Zambian Government has praised China for its continued support to Maina Soko Military Hospital in
Lusaka where it has rendered specialist assistance in medical equipment and human resource.
Defence Deputy Minister Davies Mwila said on Friday evening that China had been helpful not only to Maina Soko Military Hospital but to Zambia in general.
Mr Mwila said this at a farewell reception for 11 Chinese
medical personnel who were attached to the hospital for one year.
He said China had for a long time been offering medical
equipment and personnel who had been helping in providing medical
attention to Zambians.
He said as a result of the assistance, the hospital had
fulfilled its mission of providing medical care to defence personnel.
Chinese Ambassador to Zambia Zhou Yuxiao thanked the Zambian Government for providing a conducive environment for the Chinese doctors who had been
away from their homes for one year.
Mr Zhou said this was a measure of the good relations between defence forces
in the two countries and that it was good that Zambia appreciated the performance of the visiting doctors.
He said the relations between the two countries were not only in the
medical field, but also in the economic sector.
Maina Soko Military Hospital acting commandant Agrian Maleya said the hospital was grateful to the Chinese team that had served
in Zambia since January 12, last year.
Colonel Muleya said the Zambian staff had learnt a
lot from their Chinese counterparts.
The
hospital was established in 1985 and caters for defence personnel and
their families as well as those that have retired.
Staff at the hospital are drawn from the Zambia Air
Force, Zambia Army and Zambia National Service
