Ghana President Mahama tells Ministers-I will not tolerate corruption

President John Mahama has warned his ministers he will not entertain any acts of corruption as he swears in another batch of 17 into office Thursday.

The President reminded them of the high expectations Ghanaians have of his government and challenged them to ensure they do not disappoint. “People have a suspicion of office holders in terms of transparency and accountability.

“We are enjoined by the constitution to be held accountable for what happens in our ministries.

“I told the earlier batch that i swore in to think out of the box and take responsibility of the ministries that they are being sent to.

“...The people of Ghana and myself will hold you responsible for the ministry and we expect that you will also hold your subordinates responsible for delivering on the mandate that you have been given,” he said.

Majority leader and Minister in-charge of government business Dr. Benjamin Kumbour who spoke on behalf of his colleagues said they will do their best to ensure the President’s vision and aspirations are achieved.

Chieftaincy and Traditional Affairs Minister Dr. Henry Seidu Daanaa, Youth and Sports Minister Elvis Afriyie Ankrah and Communications Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah told JOY News they are upbeat about delivering on their promises.

Also at the Flagstaff House to meet the President were members of the Standing Committee of the Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar.

They were there to congratulate the President on his election and inauguration and to also applaud Ghanaians for ensuring a peaceful election.

According to them, Ghana has again made Africa proud. President Mahama on his part, thanked the Catholic Church for the support they have rendered the country over the period.

The President expressed surprise that Pope Benedict the 16th is on the verge of resigning and described his move a brave one.

He says Ghana is committed to working with any Pope that assumes the Vatican again.

President Mahama also told them Ghana is close to opening a diplomatic mission at the Vatican.
