Japanese fishing boat carried by tsunami arrives on Washington beach after two years

A small fishing boat displaced 4,500 miles by the Japanese tsunami has landed on a Washington beach almost two years after the devastating natural disaster. Conservationists discovered the 20-foot blue and white fishing boat with Japanese markings on the Long Beach Peninsula on Friday.
Officials suspect the boat is a piece of debris cast adrift by the 133ft wave in 2011 but are looking to confirm it with Japanese authorities.

The Washington Marine Debris Taskforce specializes in collecting data on items washed up from the Japanese disaster, as well as cataloging other beach waste in the area.

They said there was no oil or hazardous material in the vessel which was empty aside from various marine life and barnacles.
