72-year-old Farmer receives GHC150,000 MTN jackpot prize

72-year-old farmer receives GHC150,000 MTN jackpot prize
The 72-year-old cocoa farmer from Kenyasi in the Ashanti Region, Timoty Kwesi Agyeman who won the GHC150,000 jackpot in the MTN Dream Big X’treme Promo has taken delivery of his fat check.

Nana Agyeman told journalists he spent something in the region of GHC200 on the text and win promo and he gives all the credit to his grandson, Eric Amankwah who sent all the SMS on his behalf.

“I don’t know how to send text message so I buy the credit and my grandson does all the texting. He is my beloved grandson and he is clever too so any level he wants to go in schooling I will support him,” he said with pride and smiles.

The farmer’s eldest son, Osei Agyeman, a law student told Adom News when he gave the old man money for his upkeep, he (the old man) connived with the grandson and they used the money on the MTN promo.

He is however glad his dad and nephew took the risk, saying that “I send several text messages myself but I did not win so I am happy my dad won.”

Osei Agyeman said they will not rush to spend the money, but invest some in the old man’s cocoa farming and put the rest in treasury bills for a year while they think about how to properly invest the money.

“As for Eric Amankwah we will buy treasury bills for him and also sponsor his education to the highest level he wants to go,” he said.

But the old man’s wife, Janet Agyeman, was the one who was not amused by the way Nana Agyeman continuously purchased credit for the promo, saying “he spent our little housekeeping money on credit and I used to complain.”

“I did not know how to send text messages so I never tried it – but I watched him do it and at some point I advised him to stop but he and his grandson would not budge,” she said. “I am now very proud because I am the wife of a rich man.”

Meanwhile, two other top winners, who won one Jaguar XF Model 2012 car each, also took delivery of their cars.

They are Prince Boakye Owusu and Elvis Baidoo also from Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

The 100 days promo saw 200 persons winning GHC5,000, 100 people winning android handsets, three people winning Jaguar XF Model 2012 cars, and GHC40,000 worth of airtime being won by several MTN Ghana customers.

MTN Ghana CEO, Mike Ikpoki said 8% of customers participated out of which some 10,000 won prizes.

He said 54% of the winners were from Greater-Accra, 25% from the Ashanti Region, 7% from Volta Region, 5% from Northern Region, 4% from Eastern and 3% from Western.

Mr. Ikpoki was glad MTN Ghana could add more value to the lives of its customers, beyond just communication services.
