Popular Mourinho’s proposed west London 'homecoming' will be even better received with his determination to keep Stamford Bridge legend Lampard at the club.
Mirror Sport understands the Portuguese has already made discreet enquiries about the midfielder’s plans and will urge him to hold off on a final decision until his own destiny is resolved.
The former Blues boss remains a huge fan of Lampard and would want him to be part of his Chelsea set-up if he does return to the club he left six years ago.
Lampard, who turns 35 in June and is set to be out of contract at the end of the season, has been targeted by LA Galaxy.
The Major League Soccer club had been hopeful he would sign a three-year deal with them but the England star has stayed quiet on his future, even though there has also been interest from Manchester United and several Italian clubs.
Lampard, who is just two behind Bobby Tambling’s club record of 202 goals, may yet stay after months of fearing his time at Stamford Bridge was coming to an end.
Unpopular interim boss Rafa Benitez is definitely going at the end of the season, leaving fan-favourite Mourinho in the clear to take over.
The Chelsea supporters still sing Mourinho’s name on a regular basis but the Portuguese, who is on £10m-a-year at Real Madrid, will demand a big increase on his current earnings.
