Mancini should not be out of work for long as Monaco — who have been promoted to the French top flight — are looking to re-open talks with him.
He spoke with the Monte Carlo club last spring when his position at City was under threat.
Mancini has been at the Etihad for 3½ years and delivered the FA Cup as well as Champions League qualification in his first full season at the helm.
Last season he led them to a first title in 44 years and the Community Shield followed — but Manchester United have coasted to the title this season.
Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak came under fire for choosing the anniversary of City’s finest hour to pull the trigger.
Kevin Parker, of the Manchester City Supporters Trust, said: “May 13 should be a special day in the memory of City fans.
“We’ve waited all our lives to win trophies.
“We don’t know what goes on behind the scenes but fans have a dream to win trophies and under Bobby we achieved that.
