Ghana to build a new airport in Takoradi

The Ghana Airport Company Limited (GACL) has hinted to Citi Business News it is likely to locate the new commercial airport for Takoradi at Princess town.

Three locations were shortlisted for the project but the Airport Company says Princess town will be the likely location.

Currently, the Takoradi Airforce base serves as the airport for all flights to the Western region.

Takoradi Airforce base, which has seen an increase in air traffic following the oil discovery, warranted urgent attention for the construction of a commercial airport.

Managing director of the GACL, Doreen Owusu Fianko told Citi Business News, government is in talks with a number of strategic investors for the construction of the commercial airport to commence.

“We have identified the site three places actually in the Western region but the place most likely to be developed is Princess town. We have developed a conceptual design for the airport so we are working on it.

We are talking to prospective investors but if we get to a stage where we are not making headway we will have to mobilize funds on our own.”
