Kwesi Appiah to remain as Ghana Black Stars coach

The Ghana coach is expected to remain in office as the head trainer of the Black Stars when he meets the press on Friday to account for 2013 Afcon

Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah is expected to be in charge of the Black Stars, despite the team’s failure to meet their target at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

With just 10 months into his reign as head coach, calls for his removal have been rife with former GFA boss Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe at the forefront of those calling for his head. 

However, others including former Black Stars players Odartey Lamptey and Augustine Arhinful are championing his retention. 

Reports in the media on Monday have it that the Ghana Football Association wants to keep faith with Appiah with the 2014 World Cup qualifiers just a month away.

“We know of public disappointment due to the way in which we finished this tournament,” Accra-based Citi FM. “But above all, we want to empower our own. It's vital that we have faith in building local capacity. We know it is going to be a journey, not a sprint.” 

Having gone for some training courses with some selected premier league sides, Appiah will for the second time visit EPL team Manchester City for a training programme before he prepares his team for the World Cup qualifiers in March.
